APC Warns Obaseki Against Incitement and Blame-Shifting

According to Vangaurd report, The All Progressives Congress (APC) has delivered a stern admonishment to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, urging him to desist from fanning the flames of discontent among the populace towards the administration of President Bola Tinubu. The party has further rebuked the governor for attributing the dismal condition of Edo’s roads to the Federal Government, while asserting that this act is merely an attempt to shirk accountability for his perceived shortcomings by shifting the blame onto the fledgling administration led by Tinubu.

This escalating political dispute comes in the wake of Governor Obaseki’s recent allegations, as expressed through his Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie. In a statement, Obaseki had asserted that the deplorable state of federal roads in the state was a direct consequence of the Federal Government’s decisions, particularly the removal of petrol subsidy. He contended that these policies had precipitated substantial suffering among the populace, given the resultant surge in essential commodity prices.

However, the APC, through a press release signed by Blessing Agbomhere, the South-South Zonal Organizing Secretary of the party, vehemently challenges Obaseki’s claims. The party asserts that the governor has conveniently chosen to shift the onus of his perceived inadequacies onto the nascent administration of President Tinubu, which has been in office for less than three months. This act of blame-shifting, the APC contends, is a calculated maneuver to divert attention away from Obaseki’s perceived failures.

The APC’s statement further underscores the intent of President Tinubu’s administration, which has steadfastly embarked on a roadmap aimed at alleting the burdens of the onerous fuel subsidy. This strategic initiative, the party maintains, is crucial in stemming the considerable drain on the limited resources of the Federal Government. While President Tinubu’s administration has only recently assumed office, the party underscores its unwavering dedication to addressing pressing national challenges.

The political tensions between the APC and Governor Obaseki serve as a reminder of the intricate dynamics that define Nigeria’s political landscape. The parties involved each present their perspectives, contributing to a broader discourse that is pivotal in shaping the nation’s trajectory. As the debate ensues, the ultimate responsibility remains with the government at all levels to address the pressing issues faced by the citizenry, regardless of the prevailing political climate.
