Tribunal judgement: What I would have done to prove irregularities in the election- Liborous Oshoma

Veteran lawyer and political analyst Liborous Oshoma stated he would have taken a different approach to demonstrate irregularities in the election results declared by INEC that made President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the winner of the 2023 presidential election.

Oshoma offered this perspective following the ruling of the presidential election petition tribunal which affirmed Tinubu’s victory.

Instead of requesting copies of the results from INEC that they had already declared, Oshoma suggested he would have obtained copies of the results received by polling unit agents on the ground.

Speaking on Nigerian info fm, he explained, “With my experience at the tribunal, what I would first and foremost do is collect all your polling units agents’ results.

I don’t even want to examine INEC’s materials because you’ve already declared a result, which is legally presumed valid, and I’m now asking you to provide me evidence I can use to disprove it – that’s a very difficult task.”

“So if I want to make an impact, provide your polling units agents’ copies of the results they received from the field. Let’s collate those and address the specific areas where there are discrepancies.

APC also made the same mistake in Osun – that’s why the court said they must provide proof of irregularities in those specific places, not just rely on iREV data. That was the first time the Supreme Court made a ruling on the iREV issue in Osun.”
