"After Civil War, General Gowon Went To Niger And Thanked The People Of The Country" -Ado Ibrahim

Former presidential candidate Prince Malik Ado-Ibrahim has alleged that Niger was among the few countries supporting Nigeria during the Nigerian Civil War, also known as the Biafran War (1967-1970). He made this assertion in an interview with Channels TV, while discussing the coup in Niger.

During the interview, Prince Malik Ado-Ibrahim emphasized the need for a diplomatic approach to the situation in Niger. He also highlighted Niger’s unwavering support for the Nigerian government led by General Yakubu Gowon during the war. He pointed out that after the conflict’s conclusion, General Gowon expressed gratitude by visiting Niger to thank its people for their assistance.

In his words, “The Senate and the general public of Nigeria have reached a unanimous decision that war should not be waged against Niger. It’s worth remembering that Niger was one of the countries that stood by us during the war. General Gowon’s first action after the Civil War was to visit Niger and express gratitude to its people for supporting Nigeria at that time.”
