PEPT: For respected judges to say There's nothing wrong with the election is a shock to us–Abdullahi

Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), expressed his surprise and disappointment over the recent ruling by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal that upheld President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election. Abdullahi, in an interview on Arise TV, shared his perspective that it would have made more sense if the tribunal judges had nullified the election and ordered a rerun.

He pointed out that there was substantial evidence presented by the parties to challenge the election’s validity. Abdullahi believed that nullifying the election and ordering a fresh one would have been a more appropriate response to address the concerns raised during the legal proceedings. His comments shows that the PDP’s dissatisfaction with the tribunal’s judgment and their belief that the election had significant issues that warranted further scrutiny or a rerun. The PDP had hoped for a different outcome in their pursuit of electoral justice.

“There were a lot of evidence that were provided by the parties to nullify the election. If the judges had nullified the election and ordered for a rerun, it would’ve made a lot of sense. But for the respected judges to say that from the beginning to the end, there’s nothing wrong with the election, it’s a shock to us. We are yet to recover from the shock,” he said.
