Without Wike’s Huge Support, Material And Financial, Peter Obi Could Have Swept Rivers State-Okocha

Tony Okocha, a leader in the All Progressives Congress and a former coordinator for the APC’s presidential campaign in Rivers State, has insisted that Nyesom Wike, the outgoing governor of Rivers State, is deserving of a ministerial position in Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Remember that Nyesom Wike, a PDP leader, was one of the former G-5 Governors who opposed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s bid for the presidency during the most recent general elections.

In an interview with newsmen in Abuja, Tony Okocha, the former chief of staff to former governor Rotimi Amaechi, stated that the state chapter of the APC “resolved to reward Wike with the ministerial slot” and that “the former governor actively supported the APC to win the presidential election in the state when other top members abandoned the party.”

He stated that “Amaechi publicly worked for and encouraged his followers to support Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate in the election. Magnus Abe allegedly left the APC and transferred its organisational structure to the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP), according to Okocha.

“Abe had left, Amaechi had left,” he continued. I’ll venture to suggest that Wike handled the election-related expenses. He was responsible for paying the piper. Without Wike’s substantial material and monetary backing, Peter Obi may have won River State. Even if you localise Wike to Rivers State, you will bypass and undermine his impact. The PDP would have triumphed if the G-5 governors had remained together.
