What Exactly Do We Gain If We Go To War In Niger?- Bode George

After Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president of the federal republic of Nigeria, wrote to the upper chamber of the national assembly asking for permission to take military action and impose other sanctions against the military junta in Niger, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George, responded.

According to a previous story from The Guardian paper, “Nigerian soldiers claim to have overthrown President Mohamed Bazoum after armed troops earlier blockaded the presidential palace in Niamey, the capital of one of the world’s most unstable countries.” A squad of troops made an appearance on the nation’s television last Thursday, a few hours after the president was taken into custody in the west African nation.

According to The Daily Trust paper, Chief Olabode George wrote the president a letter on his own behalf as “a Nigerian, a retired General in the Nigerian military” and stated, “In Nigeria today, there is no food, no financial power to buy fuel, no light, and no money. Nigerians are suffering greatly and are psychologically stuck. Therefore, I am unsure about the purpose of our sending a fully equipped military to the Niger Republic.

“Before militarily invading another nation, we should pause,” he continued. Never begin a task you can’t complete. The largest and poorest country in the world is Niger. It has a land border with only two other countries. How will fighting in Niger benefit us specifically? to receive recognition from others?”

Do we need that kind of praise from anyone when people are dying at home, he continued.
