Tribunal: "We are positive that the judgement will favour the Labour Party and Peter Obi" – LP

Nigeria is currently gripped by anxiety, suspense, and palpable tension as its citizens eagerly await the pivotal judgment on the petitions challenging the election of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The judgment is set to be delivered by the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) tomorrow, as reported by LEADERSHIP newspaper.

Umar Mohammed Bangari, the Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, which hosts the election petitions tribunal, confirmed September 6, 2023, as the date for delivering judgment on the presidential election. The tribunal had previously merged petitions from various political parties and decided to reserve judgment on the petitions filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) to be delivered on the same day.

In a statement, the court announced that the judgments in these petitions would be televised live by interested television stations to promote transparency and openness. The statement also emphasized that access to the court premises would be strictly regulated through accreditation, allowing only authorized individuals, including counsel and political party representatives, into the courtroom. The general public was advised to follow the proceedings from their television sets for a smooth exercise.

Reacting to this development, the Labour Party expressed confidence that the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal judgment will favor its presidential candidate, Peter Obi. LEADERSHIP quotes Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of LP, as saying, “We are positive that the judgement will favour the Labour Party and our presidential candidate, Peter Obi. We are also positive that the will of the people will prevail. Most Nigerians have waited this long and their wishes will be granted.

“The mandate freely expressed on February 25 will be returned to the rightful winner of the election.”
