If You Go To SE, Half Kilometre You See Police, Our Place Is Like A Conquered Territory- Nwakeaku

The General Secretary of the Igbo Elders Forum, Prof Charles Nwakeaku, has noted that the South Eastern part of Nigeria presently looks like a conquered territory, as a result of insecurity, noting that policemen are seen in every kilometre across South East and that federal government presence can’t be identified in any part of the south east.

Speaking further, he noted that the security situation in the south east region has taken another dimension, and that Igbos are now asking question whether they are still part of Nigeria, noting that the state is expected to protect the lives and properties of the citizens but that doesn’t seem to be the case in the south east region presently.

Prof Nwakeaku made this disclosure when he was being interviewed on Arise Television, as he was reacting to the high level of insecurity being witnessed in the south east region.

He said: “If you go to the South East, you can’t identify any federal government presence, half kilometre you will see police, our place is like a conquered territory, a police state.”

Furthermore, he noted that the youths are agitating, as a result of the age long exclusion of the south east in the governance and age long deprivation of the south east region from the scheme of things in the country. He went on and urged the federal government to do the needful, so as to make sure that peace returns to the south east region of the country.

Lately, there have been series of insecurity problems in the south eastern parts of the country. Many have been killed, while others have been kidnapped. The federal government must rise up and do the needful, so as to Mahe sure that peace returns to the region.
