Tribunal: Tinubu Reveals What He Would Do If Judgment Does Not Favor Him

According to VANGUARD, as the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) prepares to deliver its judgment on Wednesday, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed confidence that his victory in the February 25th, 2023 election will be upheld. Through his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, the President has conveyed his commitment to upholding respect for institutions, even if the judgment’s outcome does not favor him.

Ngelale, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Monday, emphasized that Tinubu’s stance reflects his unwavering trust in the integrity of the judiciary. Consequently, he sees no reason to fuel speculation ahead of the judgment.

It’s important to note that Tinubu’s election is being contested by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

In Ngelale’s words, “He (Tinubu) is not worried simply because he knows he won the election.” Ngelale emphasized that the President does not see the need to threaten judicial officers or cast doubts on their integrity. Tinubu firmly believes in the sanctity and integrity of the Nigerian judicial system. He trusts that the distinguished men and women on the panel will base their decisions solely on the presented facts.

Furthermore, Ngelale stated, “He (Tinubu) will continue to ensure that no matter what the outcome of the judgment is, he does his part and ensure that our institutions continue to be respected, not just by him, but all actors.”

On Monday, the Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Bangari, announced the scheduled date for the Tribunal to deliver its judgments on the cases challenging Tinubu’s victory as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.
