The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that he didn’t know who was giving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hope over their case at the tribunal.

Nyesom Wike stated this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today. On Monday the Presidential Election Petitions Court upheld the election of Bola Tinubu. But during the interview, Wike, who commended the judges, said President Tinubu won the election squarely. Wike said, “During the tribunal sitting there was a matter over Shettima’s case at the Supreme Court. I don’t know who is behind it and giving them all kinds of hope. In that matter, as a member of the board of trustees, I put out a text that we should all pray tomorrow is our day.

“I don’t know who is somewhere giving them all this kind of hope. I don’t know whether the pastors, the imams, I don’t know who is tipping who, who is not telling them the truth. “If you don’t listen to that judgment you understand the kind you hear on social media. They didn’t attend the tribunal sitting for one day but they are putting out all that kind of things. We have resorted to intimidating judges to get judgments in our favor.

Odetayo resumed yesterday morning amid jubilation by workers, with an injunction ordering that the status quo be maintained pending the time the court would give a verdict on his suspension. The institution had been in crisis, with workers embarking on strike, following the suspension of Dr. Odetayo on July 11, 2023 by the state government on allegation of fund misappropriation. The government appointed Mr. Kehinde Alabi as the acting Rector.

However, Justice O. A. Ogunbowale granted the restraining order, which stopped Osun State Government and its agent from acting on the matter pending the determination of the suit before it. Reacting to the resumption of Dr. Odetayo, the Acting Rector, Mr. Alabi, in a statement he issued and made available to reporters, urged students and workers to remain calm, “as the government is taking steps to ensure peace returns to the campus.” “I urge you to remain calm and go about your normal duties without any protest,” he said.

The league suffered another postponement on Wednesday with the league board citing exigencies around sponsorship as well as the Nigeria Football Federation annual general meeting for the decision. However, the league body is yet to announce a new date for the commencement of the new NPFL season.

Despite the indefinite shift in date, clubs can’t embark on another break having resumed for pre-season about a month ago, as many of them are lining up more tune-up games to keep their players in shape with the hope that a new date will be announced soon.

Insecurity: 5 Sokoto LGs under bandits, terrorists’ siege

The security of lives and property in the eastern part of Sokoto State appears to have hit an all-time low as undesirable elements now enjoy free reign in killing, kidnapping, and maiming innocent members of the communities.

Consequently, fear of the unknown has gripped the affected communities, especially those in Isa, Sabon Birni, Rabah, Goronyo, and Illela local council areas of the state, whose natives have been forced to resign their fate in the hands of God. This is because the people are completely at the mercy of bandits and other criminal elements now roaming the areas freely and daring anyone or group to challenge them.

The new wave of uncertainty now pervading Sokoto East has also resulted in many people not visiting or staying in their native communities, especially against the backdrop of the unwarranted arrests of innocent persons by armed men. In the latest round of attack unleashed on the area, a flourishing young businessman was brutally shot and killed at close range for reasons not known.
