Tribunal: Reactions Trail Presidency's Response Concerning Presidential Election Judgement

In a report recently published by Sahara Reporters paper, it has been conveyed that the presidency is asserting President Bola Tinubu’s lack of apprehension ahead of the impending judgment to be issued by the Presidential Election Petition Court.

Consequently, there is no indication of any attempts to intimidate the judicial officers presiding over the matter.

Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, elaborated on this stance during an interview on Channels Television, saying: “He (Tinubu) is not worried simply because he knows he won the election.”

As a result, there is no perceived necessity to issue threats towards judicial officers. The presidency firmly believes that the judiciary is well-equipped to render impartial decisions based solely on the merits of the case before them.

Furthermore, Ngelale emphasized that President Tinubu places his trust in the integrity and sanctity of the Nigerian judicial system.

He firmly opposes any speculation aimed at questioning the integrity of the judicial officers involved in the case. Instead, he maintains faith that the distinguished individuals on the panel will base their judgments solely on the evidence presented.

Ngelale went on to assert President Tinubu’s commitment to upholding the respect and integrity of institutional processes, regardless of the eventual judgment’s outcome. This commitment extends not only to the President but also to all stakeholders involved in the legal proceedings.

It’s worth noting that the Tribunal’s judgment is scheduled to be delivered while President Tinubu is away attending the G-20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India. Additionally, the Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Bangari, announced that the Tribunal will make its rulings on the cases challenging Tinubu’s victory in the February 25, 2023, election open to live broadcast by interested television stations.

In terms of the legal challenges to Tinubu’s election, these have been brought forth by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). Atiku, a former Vice President, secured the second position in the closely contested poll, while Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, came in third.
