Tinubu Won't Be on Ballot if there is Rerun of Election – LP Claims

The campaign organization of Obi-Datti released a statement expressing doubt that President Tinubu would participate in a rerun election if the current one were annulled based on incriminating evidence presented before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PREPEC) in Abuja.

According to Thisday Live, Mr. Phrank Shaibu, Atiku Abubakar’s Special Assistant on Public Communication, highlighted the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s unease about the court potentially overturning President Tinubu’s election.

Mr. Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), leading President Tinubu’s legal team, argued that in the case of a rerun, only Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar meet the constitutional qualifications for re-contest. They suggested that Mr. Peter Obi and his party, the LP, would be excluded.

The LP vehemently rejected this assertion, claiming that the evidence before the PREPEC, including certificate forgery, drug trafficking forfeiture, and an invalid vice presidential nomination, would prevent Tinubu from appearing on the ballot.

The LP also accused Tinubu’s lawyers of attempting to deceive the justices. Additionally, the dispute over allegedly stolen votes in Rivers and Benue states further complicates the situation, as the calculations are still being deliberated in court.

The Organization questions the timing of the APC’s challenge to the Kano results and their request to exclude Obi from a potential rerun, suspecting strategic calculations by the APC’s legal team.

The complexity of the case is further intensified by the evidence presented by witnesses under oath and the conflicting claims in court documents.
