Professor John Ebhomien, an All Progressives Congress Chieftain (APC) in Lagos, is a former Consultant to the United Nations Office of Project Services. The former World Bank/International Monetary Fund (IMF) economist and financial management expert spoke to EJIKEME OMENAZU on the recent call by Asari Dokubo for Ndigbo to go, why Nnamdi Kanu should be released and the need for the government to roll out palliatives to cushion the effects of oil subsidy removal.

As President Bola Tinubu has been setting up and consolidating his government, how do you see the way opposition politicians have been flooding Aso Rock to see him?

I think President Tinubu should be mindful of these political jobbers who have been trooping to Aso Rock for political patronage, especially those from the opposition political parties who are out for their selfish interests. i think Tinubu should know that all eyes are on his administration and he should also know that his integrity is at stake. So, he should try as much as possible to guard his integrity jealously and put in place appropriate mechanisms to address those hydra-headed problems that have been plaguing the country for the past years. That should be his primary concern.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has told former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, that Nigerians still need his services in a higher capacity.

Speaking at a Thanksgiving Service organised for Mustapha in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, yesterday, the president said the former SGF discomforted his family to provide effective services to the country.

The president, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, pointed out that the former SGF was not only a transparent leader but also helped to unite the country through his unbiased decisions.

He said the Mustapha should be expecting to serve Nigerians in a higher capacity in the nearest future.

Also speaking at the event, former president Goodluck Jonathan, who was represented by Dr. Godbless Erunia, said that Mustapha was the engine room that stabilised the immediate past government.

He urged Nigerians to emulate the selfless services provided by the former SGF to ensure that the country becomes free from corruption and other issues holding it down.

The Auxiliary Bishop of Abuja Archdiocese, Anslem Umoren, has questioned the Federal Government’s plan to give N8,000 to 12million households in Nigeria for six months.

Umoren also wants to know those who will benefit from the N8,000 and the data the Federal Government will use to carry out its plan, insisting that Nigerians are over 200 million.

He stated this on Sunday while speaking with the newsmen on the sidelines of the Mass and Charter Presentation ceremony of Serra Club, Garki, Abuja.

DAILY POST reports that President Bola Tinubu had, in a request to the National Assembly, pointed out the intention to cater for the welfare of poor and vulnerable households in the country under the National Safety Net Programme of the Federal Government.

According to Tinubu, N8,000 would be transferred monthly, digitally, to the accounts of 12 million poor and low-income households for six months.

“I want to call on the government to do all it plans to allete the sufferings of the people, it cannot be business as usual,” Umoren said.

“I don’t want to believe all that I see in the media is true; 8,000 households, which data are you using? Who is going to benefit from it? We are over 200 million.

“They need to rethink what they are trying to do to make sure that what they are doing will reach out to everyone. Otherwise, it will be the same as before.”
