Release Abdulrasheed Bawa from custody, Falana tells DSS

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, on Sunday advised the Department of the State Service, DSS, to release the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Falana made the request in a statement he personally signed and sent to Vanguard on Sunday afternoon.

He noted that Bawa’s remand order has expired, arguing that since Bawa has not been charged with any criminal offence whatsoever, DSS ought to have released him from custody.

His words: “Sometime last month, I had cause to demand for the immediate release of Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from the custody of the State Security Service. In the alternative, I requested the Federal Government to charge the two detained suspects before a court of competent jurisdiction, if there was evidence that they had committed criminal offences.

Tinubu appoints Momoh as minister designate for Niger Delta; reshuffles 3 ministers-designate

Following the outcry over the omission of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs in the recently published ministries and their respective ministers, President Bola Tinubu has approved the redeployment of Engr. Abubakar Momoh from the Federal Ministry of Youth to the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Development.

The President also made a minor amendment to ministry’s nomenclature from Niger Delta Affairs to Niger Delta Development.This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

The statement said that the Federal Ministry of Youth will be re-assigned to a Minister-Designate soon.

President Tinubu also reshuffled the Ministers-Designate allocated to the Federal Ministries of Transportation, Interior, and Marine & Blue Economy.

In the new arrangement, Adegboyega Oyetola is redeployed as the Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo is redeployed as the Minister of Interior, while Hon. Sa’idu Alkali is redeployed as the Minister of Transportation

Furthermore, both Ministers of State in the Oil & Gas sector are now domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources with Senator Heineken Lokpobiri as the Minister of State (Oil), Petroleum Resources and Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo as the Minister of State (Gas), Petroleum Resources.

Expect more bandits in Nigeria if Niger is attacked — National Missioner, Abdurrahman Ahmad

National Missioner, Ansar-ud-Deen Society, Abdurrahman Ahmad, led a delegation of Islamic scholars from Nigeria to meet the Niger junta leader, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, as part of the efforts to peacefully resolve the efforts to restore President Mohamed Bazoum who was toppled on July 26, 2023.

The Economic of West African States (ECOWAS), led by Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, had threatened to remove the junta by military force if diplomatic options failed. As part of the diplomatic options, Tinubu had raised a team of eminent Nigerians, led by a former Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar, to meet and negotiate with the coup leaders in Niamey, but the coup leaders failed to meet with them even after they had arrived the country.

In an interview granted a television station last week, Ahmad spoke on his team’s trip to Niger and meeting with the junta leader and the findings.

Gbajabiamila Calls for Unity, Peace In Abia APC As Party Stakeholders Visit

Immediate past speaker of House of Representatives and Chief of Staff (CoS) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has urged stakeholders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State to embrace peace and unity to entrench the party in the state and the south east in general.

He emphasized that unity was a sine qua non to achieving the lofty ideals of the party in the south east.

Gbajabiamila spoke, Saturday, when he received Abia APC stakeholders in his house on a thank-you visit on the election of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu as the deputy speaker of the 10th House of Representatives and other Abia indigenes which included Rt. Hon. Nkiruka Onyejiocha, the incoming minister of State for Labour and Employment and Rt. Hon. Sam Onuigbo who was appointed a member of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) by President Tinubu.

In a statement signed by Levinus Nwabughiogu, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Deputy Speaker, Gbajabiamila who was surprised to see such a large turnout of leaders assured that the doors of the federal government under President Tinubu were open to them at all times.

He however enjoined the stakeholders to work assiduously to make APC the number one party in the south east, assuring that it will boost the fortunes of the region in no small measures.

Earlier in their separate remarks, the stakeholders through their leaders, Senator Adighije, Senator Nkechi Nwogu, the former minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Nwogu and a member of APC National Caucus, Chief Sam Nkire expressed gratitude to Gbajabiamila for facilitating Kalu’s election, the appointment of Onyejiocha and Onuigbo amongst others.
