Atiku, Okowa, PDP Govs Meet In Abuja.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25 election, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa and some governors of the party are currently in a closed door meeting in Asokoro, Abuja.

The meeting, Daily Trust reliably gathered, has to do with the state of affairs in the party and what can be done to change its fortune following the loss at the last election.

At Least 16 Killed In Georgia Landslide.

At least 16 people were killed and dozens were missing after a landslide at a resort town in northwestern Georgia, officials said Saturday.

The landslide took place in Shovi, a small resort town in Georgia’s mountainous northwest famed for its vast forests and mineral water springs.

Resident Doctors Declare Nationwide Protests.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared daily nationwide protests and picketing of federal health institutions.

In a notice issued on Saturday, the association which is currently on a nationwide indefinite strike said the protest will commence on Wednesday, 9th August at 10:00am.

Senate Washes Hands Off Military Action.

The Senate has washed its hands off reports of military action against the coup plotters who last week toppled the democratically elected president of Niger Republic, warning President Bola Tinubu and Heads of States of member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to explore diplomatic, not military means, in intervening in the political impasse in the country.

The Red Chamber in an extraordinary session on Saturday also commended President Bola Tinubu for not seeking its backing for a military action in the troubled West African State.
