The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has dared the Peoples Democratic Party to suspend him from the party.

Speaking in an exclusive interview the former Rivers Governor explained that he was working for President Bola Tinubu and not the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike accused the PDP of impunity, thereby deepening crisis in the party before and after the 2023 elections.

He stated that the person that wants to suspend him is the one that couldn’t produce a Governor or three Senators or Assembly. He further said that he hasv not seen that person that will suspend him in PDP.

Banks sack 110 top executives, others over N82bn fraud

At least 110 top bank executives and junior staff members have been sacked for fraud-related cases in the past two years, findings by The PUNCH have shown.

These were contained in the ‘Reports of Fraud and Forgeries in Nigerian Banks’’ released by the Financial Institutions Training Centre between the second quarter of 2021 and Q2 2023.

FITC’s institutional members are members of the Nigerian Banker’s Committee, which comprises the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, and all licensed banks in Nigeria.

A breakdown showed that while only four bank officials were sacked in Q2 2021, the figure rose by 175 per cent to 11 in Q2 2023.

The highest number of sacked top bank executives and junior staff members was recorded in Q3 2022. Twenty officials were fired.

Anambra rescues newborn dumped in pit toilet, arrests mother

A 20-year-old lady, Nwaedoka Chidimma, from the Izzi community in Ebonyi State, has allegedly thrown her newborn into a pit toilet in the Otuocha community, the Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, where she works.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Sunday while the baby was rescued late on Tuesday after some residents heard him crying from the pit toilet.

A resident, who gave her name as Esther, said the culprit, who was pregnant at the time, secured a farm job in the community and while on the farm, went to use the toilet after which she came back dripping with blood.

According to Esther, a farmer, the suspect had requested she stay in her (Esther’s) residence for a few days to enable her to carry out the farming job she secured in the area.

Navy nabs five stowaways on Spain-bound ship

The Nigerian Navy, NNS Beecroft’s patrol team on August 26, 2023, apprehended five Nigerian stowaways trying to exit the country.

They were reportedly arrested onboard a vessel, MSC Martha heading to Spain within the vicinity of the Lagos anchorage.

The Commander, NNS Beecroft, Kolawale Oguntuga, while handing the suspects over to the Nigerian Immigration Service at the Naval Base Apapa, Lagos on Wednesday said their arrest was carried out following a tipoff.

Oguntuga gave the names of the stowaways as Effiong Okon, Ayewuni Daniel, Ajagboma Asiko, Adebanjo Ayewumi and Christian Joseph.

Oguntuga added that mobile phones, some personal effects and a cash sum of N7,900 were found on them.
