Alleged N6.9bn Fraud: How Ex-Governor, Fayose Received Funds From NSA Account Without Any Contract – EFCC Witness

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) resumed the trial of former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose on Friday with the testimony of one of its investigation officers, Mr. Abubakar Madaki.

Fayose and his firm, Spotless Investment Limited, are being prosecuted by the EFCC for allegedly laundering N6.9 billion.

Madaki, the 13th prosecution witness, was led in evidence before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke by the prosecution counsel, Mr Rotimi Jacobs.

The witness testified that he was in the EFCC during the investigation of the case between 2014 and 2015 as the Head of Economic Governance. He left the EFCC in 2020.He stated that sometime in mid-2015, the commission received an anonymous report on procurement of fire arms by the then National Security Adviser (NSA).

He said the report contained the names of many companies and individuals who obtained money from the NSA’s office without rendering any service.

He identified a firm, Silver Macnamara, as one of the companies that allegedly obtained over N4billion.

The companies and individuals, he added, were analysed and investigation was extended to banks, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), BDCS and the other persons that had a relationship with the case.

Madaki said: “Responses were received and Silver Macnamara had an account with Diamond Bank. The statement of account received from Silver Macnamara was analysed and various withdrawal and deposits was analysed.

Nigerian President, Tinubu Leaves For Kenya On Two-Day AU Meeting

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja for Nairobi, Kenya, on Saturday, July 15, to participate in the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (5thMYCM) of the African Union (AU).

The presidential spokesman, Dele Alake, in a statement on Friday, said the President as the Chairperson of ECOWAS would join Heads of State and Government, Foreign Ministers of the AU Member-States, and high-level dignitaries at the mid-year meeting which would take place on Sunday, July 16.

He said President Tinubu would present a report on the status of regional integration in ECOWAS, highlighting actions carried out during the period under review by ECOWAS institutions, member-states, the private sector, and other stakeholders to deepen integration through trade, free movement of persons, investment promotion, infrastructure development, peace, security and stability.

Alake added that the 5th MYCM, which is convening under the AU’s theme for 2023 christened “Acceleration of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Implementation,” will bring together the Bureau of the AU Assembly, comprising the Heads of State and Government from Comoros, Botswana, Burundi, and Senegal, as well as the leaders of the eight RECs.

IGP presents N535m cheques to 68 families of deceased police officers

The Acting Inspector General of Police(IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, Friday, presented about N540 million to 68, families of deceased police officers who lost their live in active duty in Abuja.

The amount also covers police personnel who have suffered permanent deformities in the course of discharging their lawful duties captured under the Group Life Assurance 2022/2023 Policy.

Presenting the cheques to the next of kins of the deceased officers families at the police force headquarters in Abuja, the IGP, assured that the Nigeria Police Force under his watch firmly believes that human life is valuable, and prioritizes the well-being of officers and men of the Force.

He stressed that his leadership will promptly fulfill the obligation of providing insurance and other benefits to all police personnel who have sacrificed immensely for our beloved country by providing comprehensive welfare support aimed at creating an environment where every officer feels valued, protected, and motivated to give their best in service to our nation.

While praying to God to comfort the families, the IGP, urged them to invest the money to take proper care of their children left behind by their spouses.

The Inspector-General of Police, while recognizing the incredible resilience and unwavering commitment of the men and women who have served, and those who continue to serve on the front lines, extended his deepest gratitude to the gallant officers of the Nigeria Police Force for their commendable dedication, sacrifice, and unalloyed allegiance to upholding the values of justice and security.

NDLEA intercepts 64,863kg ‘laughing gas’ consignments at Lagos port, Imo

tives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted over 64, 863.5 kilogram consignments of nitrous

oxide otherwise known as laughing gas at the Apapa seaport in Lagos and in Imo state.

The arrest is coming barely 24 hours after the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Brig.Gen Mohamed Marwa directed all Commands and formations of the agency to commence immediate clampdown on illegal use and sale of nitro oxide otherwise known as laughing gas following abuse by people who use it for recreational purposes.

A statement by the Director Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi said

following credible intelligence NDLEA operatives at the Apapa seaport on Wednesday July 12, intercepted two containers marked MSKU 7626856 and MSKU 7689448 suspected to contain cartons of Nitrous oxide and plastic pressure release nozzles imported from China.

As a result, a joint examination of the containers was carried out by NDLEA officers, men of the Customs Service and other stakeholders the following day, Thursday July 13.
