Today's Headlines: Enugu Tribunal Sacks LP Federal Lawmaker, Time For Politicking Over – Remi Tinubu

Enugu tribunal sacks LP federal lawmaker

The election petition tribunal in Enugu State has sacked Prof Paul Nnamchi of the Labour Party, representing the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency of the state.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Cornelius Nnaji was declared the winner instead.

Nnaji had approached the tribunal, challenging the declaration of Nnamchi as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The court said that the respondent was not duly sponsored and therefore not qualified to contest on the platform of the Labour Party.

The tribunal agreed in its unanimous decision with the petitioner’s claim that the Labour Party’s candidate was not qualified to contest the election.

Time For Politicking Over – Remi Tinubu

The First Lady, Mrs Remi Tinubu, has stated that the time of politicking in the nation was over, and it’s time for the prospect seen by the founding fathers of the nation to materialise.

She made this known when the wives of ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria paid her a congratulatory visit in her office at the State House, Abuja, on Friday.

According to a statement by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady pointed out that women have a critical role in bringing healing to the nation, hence her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) reaching out to the displaced people of Mangu in Plateau State.

“Our colonial masters saw a prospect in Nigeria and that is why they brought all of us together. It is time for that prospect to materialize now.

“When we build lives, we are actually building our nation. Politics is over. Every state we want to really affect. We want to go in there because it is our state. Nigeria belongs to all of us. So when we want to begin politics, everybody will go back to their own tents, but right now, Nigeria is more important. It is more important than any party or any political affiliation,” she stated.

The visit was an opportunity for Senator Oluremi Tinubu to highlight some of the achievements of the Initiative within the first 100 days of President Bola Tinubu administration.

Nigerian Police Launch Manhunt For Killers Of Catholic Seminarian In Kaduna State

The Kaduna State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has launched manhunt for the attackers of the Saint Raphael Catholic Church Parish in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of the state.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits burnt down the parish House of Saint Raphael’s Catholic Church at Fadan Kamantan in Zangon Kataf LGA on Thursday night, killing a seminarian, Stephen Danlami, in the process.

According to the spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Manir Hassan, bandits stormed the church in droves.

Hassan stated that when the terrorists could not gain access to the main building, they set the house ablaze alongside a vehicle and motorcycle parked on the premises.

He explained that Danlami died from the smoke he inhaled while trying to escape from the raging fire, while two other priests inside the parish house were able to escape from the raging fire.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) told Channels TV that the command had launched an investigation to ascertain what led to the church attack with a view to arresting the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

Protect Your Communities From Bandits’ Attacks, CAN Tells Kaduna Residents

The Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on the residents of Southern Kaduna and the state in general to rise up and prevent their communities from bandits’ invasion.

According to CAN, people must be responsible for the protection of the communities where they live because security is everybody’s business.

Reverend John Hayab, the CAN State Chairman, made this call in a statement on Friday while reacting to the attack on Fadan Kamatan Parish of the Catholic diocese of Kafanchan, Zangon Kataf LGA of the state.

He urged the state governor and all relevant stakeholders to immediately swing into action and ensure that those responsible for the Kamatan Evil Night attack are apprehended and made to face the law.

“It is unacceptable that this kind of unholy activity could be recorded at the heart of Fadan Kamantan community, and the criminals operate unchallenged. It is a slap to the security forces within that jurisdiction, religious leaders, traditional, and community leaders.”
