Despite APC Appointment, Wike Still PDP Leader—Senate Dep Minority Leader

The Senate’s Deputy minority leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi has disclosed that the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike is still a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Speaking on the background of calls for sanction against the former Rivers State Governor over anti-party activities and serving under the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government, he said Wike has not done anything out of the ordinary.

Oyewumi while addressing newsmen in Ikire, Osun state at the weekend, said what was happening between Wike and the PDP is the effect of the aftermath of the general election, saying such an incident is not restricted to the PDP only but other parties.

His words; “Nyesom Wike is one of our prominent leaders. He did wonderfully well in Rivers State during the last general election. His successor is one of the PDP governors who has never missed any PDP programme.

I’m Satisfied With Conduct Of LG Elections In Edo—Obaseki

Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo, on Saturday, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of Local Government elections in the state.

Obaseki gave the remark shortly after he voted at Ward 10, Unit 19 polling station at about 1.50 p.m.

According to him, “in spite of the rain, the turn out has been considerably interesting.

“That means political parties did all what they were supposed to do to sensitise the people.

“Secondly, we can see that the process has been very peaceful. I am very happy with this.

“That people were here some minutes before the close of polls. We have not had any incidence of violence from anywhere,” he said.

On his expectation of the outcome, the Edo governor said he believed the popular candidates would win.

“I believe the popular candidates will win the elections, but don’t forget the PDP went all out to campaign for this election.

APC’ll open functional offices in 8,813 wards, says Ganduje

National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje has revealed plans to establish functional party offices in all the 8,813 wards across the country to bring the party closer to the people.

Ganduje also disclosed that the APC is at the concluding stage of establishing a National Institute of Progressive Studies.

Speaking on Saturday in Lokoja the Kogi state capital during the inauguration of the leadership and members of the APC National Gubernatorial Campaign Council for the state, Ganduje called on all party members and stakeholders to rally around the APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Ododo Ahmed Usman to succeed in the forthcoming election.

Tinubu Recalls All Nigerian Ambassadors, Exempts UN Permanent Reps

President Bola Tinubu has recalled the country’s ambassadors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.

This is according to a statement by Alkasim Abdulkadir, the Special Assistant on Media and Communication Strategy to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar.

“Sequel to the inquiries on the letter recalling the Nigerian ambassador to the UK the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has reaffirmed that all career ambassadors and noncareer ambassadors have been recalled on the instructions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ambassadors as representatives of the country they serve at the behest of the president and it’s his prerogative to send or recall them from any country,” the statement read.

Two die, five injured in Ondo road crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ondo State Command, said two people died while five others were injured in an accident on Friday night in the Olokuta area on the Akure-Ondo road.

The Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, Mr. Ezekiel SonAllah, confirmed the incident to the Agency of Nigeria in a telephone interview on Saturday.

SonAllah, who explained that the accident occurred at about 5:48 p.m., said it involved six male adults and one female adult.

The sector commander attributed the cause of the crash, which involved one commercial vehicle and a Honda Accord car, to speeding.
