Tinubu is in the Villa today because of the overwhelming votes he got from the north – Usman Yusuf

According to Professor Usman Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently in the presidential villa due to the significant number of votes he received from the northern region in the previous election.

In his own words;

“APC former President handed over power to you(Tinubu) and the first thing you want to pay him with is bring war in his backyard. You don’t have that respect for him? President Tinubu is occupying the villa today because of the overwhelming vote he got from the north.”

During an interview with AIT’s Focus program, Prof. Usman Yusuf expressed his opinion on the Niger coup issue and explained why he believed Nigeria should avoid engaging in war with Niger.

Prof Usman stated that Nigerians are unable to financially support engaging in a conflict with Niger. He emphasized that military intervention should not be considered as a ble option, and the people in the northern region of Nigeria strongly oppose it.

However, he was interrupted with the argument that Nigeria had previously intervened militarily in Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Professor Usman stated that the two mentioned countries are not located nearby and Nigeria’s intention was to establish peace rather than provoke conflict. He emphasized that Niger has not initiated any attacks against Nigeria. The professor also highlighted the strong connection between Niger and the northern region, mentioning that intermarriage has occurred between the two over the years. Additionally, he pointed out that President Buhari, along with other leaders from the north, have acquaintances in Niger.

According to Prof Usman, everyone in the northern region of Niger has expressed their opposition to engaging in war.
