Tinubu govt will rejig N-Power, pay beneficiaries – Beta Edu

Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alletion, has announced sweeping changes to the N- Power scheme in a bid to make it more inclusive and ensure the timely disbursement of stipends to beneficiaries. This development was conveyed in an official statement released on a Sunday and attributed to the Minister through her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Rasheed Zubair, in the nation’ s capital, Abuja, VANGUARD NEWS reports.

Dr. Edu acknowledged the persistent challenges faced by N- Power beneficiaries, primarily the recurring issue of delayed stipend payments. She pledged that her ministry was diligently working to address these challenges by introducing a revamped approach to the program. ” We will change the modalities so that people will get their delayed stipends, include more people, and relaunch it with a renewed hope concept, ” she assured.

Furthermore, Dr. Edu unveiled the ministry’ s ambitious plan to establish humanitarian hubs across all 774 local government areas in the country. This initiative is part of a long- term strategy to combat poverty in Nigeria effectively. The envisaged hubs will serve as platforms for the distribution of locally- sourced commodities at affordable prices, directly benefitting the Nigerian populace.

The statement also highlighted the ministry’ s commitment to enhancing transparency in its operations. To achieve this, the ministry intends to dispatch its staff to all local government areas to gather feedback from the grassroots. Additionally, a digital tracking system for palliatives will be implemented, with the objective of monitoring the precise time, location, households, and individuals who receive these relief materials. Independent monitors will be engaged to ensure that these resources reach those who are truly in need.

Dr. Edu underscored her dedication to poverty alletion through various means, including job creation, cash transfers to impoverished Nigerians, collaboration with the Nutrition Department, and the establishment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, complete with provisions of stimulus support for these businesses.
