Senator Walid Jibrin reacts over claim that it was Atiku who pressured him to resign as BoT chairman

According to a news that was published by the Punch paper online yesterday, it was reported that the former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jibrin, has lamented that his party has sidelined him, as he is no longer invited for critical meetings in the party, as the Nasarawa State-born politician, however, said that he was not bothered by this development.

Walid Jibrin, while he was talking in an exclusive interview with Punch correspondent on Wednesday, said that he was not given preference at the party meetings as a former Chairman of the BoT, and he was not acknowledged also.

He said, “But none of these disturb me. When I served as BoT chairman, Peoples Democratic Party’s members, overwhelmingly supported me. Anyone who claims that Atiku Abubakar pressurised me to resign as the BoT chairman, is blatantly lying. I resigned on my own. Why did not he (Atiku) request for Ayu’s resignation ? Many people have urged me not to stand down, but I know in my heart that doing so was the wisest course of action.”

Further talking, he said that the north should allow the Southern region to take over the leadership of the BoT, because they (northerners) are not the only ones in the party. I am enjoying the leadership of Senator Adolphus Wabara, we relate very well. I will remain a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, whether I am invited or not.”

Walid Jibrin, while reacting to the ongoing case at the Tribunal, expressed optimism that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will get a favourable judgment at the Presidential Election Petitions Court in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, where he is challenging the result of the February 25th presidential election, in which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was declared as the winner.
