Speaker Charles Nwekeaku, a professor at Nasarawa State University’s Department of New Public Management, discussed the master plan that Nyesom Wike, the newly appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has for the nation’s capital.

In an interview that aired this morning on Arise TV, Prof. Nwekeaku stated that…

“You should adhere strictly to the policies that you have. In some way, policy serves as a guide or foundation for action. However, a common proverb in Nigeria asserts that policy implementation, not policy itself, is the country’s problem. Since implementation is a step in the policy-making process, I disagree. Actually, you inquired about the Abuja master plan and other things, but before that, the speed at which Nigerians do tasks has a bearing on it.”

“The issue, in my opinion, has been that we tend to act without really thinking things through”. I heard all that Wike stated yesterday on TV, for instance, when he took office as the new minister of the Federal Capital Territory. “I know he was the former governor of Rivers State, but it seems he hasn’t read much about the Abuja master plan,” he said at the outset, threatening to demolish any property that did not comply with it.”
