Today's Headlines: Obi'll Soon be Declared President–Julius Abure;Nigeria Grinding to Halt Under Tinubu–PDP

Obi’ll Soon be Declared Nigeria’s President, Abure tells Nigerians in US

Julius Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), confidently asserts that Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, is poised to become the President of Nigeria.

Abure made this assertion while addressing a group of Nigerians in the United States as part of his countrywide tour.

Peter Obi, who secured the third position in the presidential election held in February, along with his party, is challenging the election results, aiming to nullify the victory of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Currently touring the United Kingdom and the US, Abure indicated that the judgment of the presidential election petition tribunal (PEPT) is expected to be delivered on or before September 16.

Underlining Peter Obi’s substantial role in the 2023 general election, Abure stated,“Following Peter Obi’s participation in the 2023 general election, we changed the political narratives in Nigeria. We gave them a run for their money.” He continued, “They have murdered sleep and they will sleep no more. They have stolen what is not for them and they will not sleep until we recover it all.”

Nigeria Grinding to Halt Under Tinubu –PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asserted that the country is gradually coming to a standstill under President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP argued that the rushed execution of government policies is endangering the peace, unity, and overall existence of the nation.

According to the opposition party, the lack of innovative thinking and sensitivity in actions like the removal of fuel subsidies and the floatation of the Naira has amplified poverty, insecurity, and a sense of despair nationwide. The PDP expressed concern that if the current state of despondency is not promptly addressed, it could escalate into a significant crisis.

The PDP raised an alarm that there is a severe disconnection between the government and its citizens due to ill-planned and hastily implemented policies that have brought unbearable hardship, alarming insecurity, and a general feeling of uncertainty that is already jeopardizing the nation’s peace, unity, and cohesion.

The party expressed distress that over the last two months, more than 150 million Nigerians can no longer afford their daily meals, leaving families to go to bed on empty stomachs. The PDP criticized the APC for its questionable relief program that provides an average of 1,200 bags of rice per state, terming it a fraudulent approach to deceiving and swindling Nigerians, which has contributed to growing frustration across the nation.

Furthermore, the party noted its distress at the Federal Government’s indifference to the plight of Nigerians and its lack of commitment to ensuring citizens’ safety, particularly in the face of over 500 deaths in Plateau, Benue, Niger, Kaduna, and other states, with many more abductions since May 29, 2023.

The PDP decried the APC’s inadequate response to the abduction of eight corps members en route to Sokoto State for their mandatory national service, emphasizing the government’s lack of sensitivity to citizens’ security and well-being. The party also criticized the APC for failing to provide a reassuring statement after a Nigerian military aircraft went down, resulting in the loss of lives of military personnel. The PDP accused the APC government of attempting to instigate a needless conflict in the Niger Republic over a dispute that poses no threat to Nigeria’s national interest.

Abuja: FCTA Demolishes Multimillion Naira Duplex

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) demolished a multimillion-naira duplex on plot 226 in Wuse Zone 6, which was constructed on an unapproved land. This action was reported by Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, the Director of the Department of Development Control.

Galadima stated that the building had been constructed in violation of warnings and regulations. He further mentioned that his team conducted a thorough investigation to determine the true owner of the plot, as there were conflicting claims being made by different parties. Through the investigation, it was uncovered that the developer was not the legitimate owner of the plot, which led to the decision to demolish the building.

He emphasized that the FCT Administration will not consider the developer’s status if they disregard the rules and regulations governing development.

Edo Deputy Governor Walks Out of Event After Aides Were Denied Entry

During a government function on Monday, Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, walked out of the venue when his aides were denied entry by security officials.

Governor Godwin Obaseki had organized a colloquium at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub on Airport Road in Benin to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum.

Upon the governor’s opening remarks, Shaibu and his aides arrived at the venue. However, security operatives at the hall’s entrance prevented the aides from entering.

A viral video on social media captures the incident, showing the security operatives attempting to explain the situation to Shaibu amid the ensuing commotion.

After unsuccessful attempts to reach an agreement with the officers, Shaibu eventually said to his aides, “let’s go.”
