PEPT: Tell us if you paid bribe to reclaim mandate as Anambra governor – Wike to Obi

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called on Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25th election, to publicly disclose whether he offered a bribe to the Supreme Court in order to regain his position as governor of Anambra State after being ousted.

He condemned Peter Obi for disagreeing with the decision of the election tribunal, stating that Obi had previously praised the judiciary when he emerged victorious in the Supreme Court in 2007. However, now that Obi has lost at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, he is accusing the judiciary of being incorrect.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday September 7, 2023, Wike said – “Did Peter Obi not win at the Supreme Court when he was removed as governor? Did he pay bribe? Let him tell the world now.

“When he was removed as a governor, did he not reclaim his mandate at the Supreme Court? Judiciary was right, but now that the decision happened, judiciary is wrong.”

Wike questioned if Peter Obi did not emerge victorious at the Supreme Court when he was ousted as governor, and if he resorted to bribery. He urged Obi to clarify this to the public.

“Didn’t Peter Obi successfully regain his position as governor through the Supreme Court after being removed? The judiciary was deemed correct back then, but now that a different decision has been made, the judiciary is being criticized.”

Peter Obi was unsuccessful in his attempt to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s win at the election tribunal. Despite the tribunal’s decision to uphold Tinubu’s victory, Peter Obi refused to accept the judgement and declared his intention to escalate the case to the Supreme Court.
