Niger Republic: Tinubu govt desperately dragging Nigeria into war – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party accused the Federal Government of President Bola Tinubu of desperately dragging Nigeria into war with ulterior motives.

According to DailyPost, Peoples Democratic Party spokesperson Debo Ologunagba said the war with the Republic of Nigeria is expected to increase tensions in Nigeria.

Ologunagba, in a statement, said the APC was trying to bring Nigeria into a state of war by “dragging our military into an unnecessary conflict with the Republic of Niger”.

According to him, “The PDP believes that despite opposition from the National Assembly and the Nigerian public at all levels, the APC government’s insistence on requiring Nigerian soldiers to enlist in the Republic of Niger confirms public fears. They know about Tinub’s ulterior motives, which led the APC into crisis and destabilized our country for political reasons.

“While the PDP does not support an unconstitutional change of government anywhere in the world, our party believes that the situation in the Republic of Niger does not justify external peacekeeping efforts, but rather our commitments. We argue that it does not threaten our national interests because of our military power, which has already been overextended to harm us in a futile war.”

“The APC government’s determination to wage war on the Republic of Niger has increased tensions in Nigeria.”

“There is a public perception that the APC is sending Nigerian troops into the Republic of Nigeria to foment a possible foreign invasion from Nigeria, desperate to create a situation to ban the declaration of a state of emergency in Nigeria that tends to paralyze them. There are hints that it will monitor the 2023 presidential election judicial process and look away from the difficulties the APC has wrought on the country over the past two months.”
