LP Chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo Faults Election Tribunal Over Dismissal Of Petitions Against Shettima

In the wake of the dismissal of petitions filed by opposition parties seeking the disqualification of the APC’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu over alleged double nomination by his running mate, and eventual Vice President, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, renowned lawyer and Labour Party chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo has taken to social media to call out the five-man panel of Appeal Court Justices presiding over the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

In a series of tweets posted on his Twitter handle on Wednesday, September 6, Okonkwo, who was a member of the legal team that represented the Labour Party in court, faulted the decision of the judges to rely on a certain withdrawal letter written to the APC by Shettima dated 6th of July, 2022, in dismissing the petitions filed against the VP.

Okonkwo argued that Shettima couldn’t have written the letter withdrawing his nomination as a senatorial candidate on the above-mentioned date because Tinubu was alleged to have told journalists of his decision to nominate the former Borno State Governor as his running mate on the 10th of July.

Concluding his tweet, the LP chieftain insisted that the tribunal ought to have logically evaluated the evidence that was tendered by the APC in court before reaching its decision.
