It Will Be A Disaster For Appeal Court To Rule That Getting 25% Of Votes In FCT Is Important' Kargbo

Sam Kargbo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has expressed his concerns about the potential consequences if the Court of Appeal were to overturn the ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal regarding the requirement of obtaining 25% of votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In Wednesdays judgment by the PEPT, the judges dismissed the claim that a candidate needed to secure a minimum of 25% of votes in Abuja to win the presidential election. They asserted that Abuja is on par with other states and does not hold special status. In response, Sam Kargbo, during an interview on AIT, emphasized that the residents of Abuja should not be treated differently from those in other Nigerian states.

In his own words, as aired in a video (17:26) on AIT, “It would be a disastrous decision if the judges in the Appeal Court were to rule differently, asserting the importance of obtaining 25% of votes in Abuja. There is no valid basis for such a ruling. The citizens and inhabitants of the FCT are no different from those in other states, so expecting special treatment is unwarranted.”

Sam Kargbo’s remarks underscore his belief that maintaining consistency in election rules across all regions is essential to ensuring fairness and equity in the electoral process.
