Pictures: Obi, Abure, Otti, others Rally in Imo for Achonu's Campaign Kickoff

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), along with LP National Chairman Julius Abure, and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, made a powerful entrance into Owerri, Imo State, on Tuesday to kickstart the party’s governorship campaign.

Accompanied by other party members, they were warmly welcomed by Senator Athan Achonu, the LP governorship candidate for Imo State, and other prominent LP leaders.

Governor Alex Otti addressed an enthusiastic crowd of party members and supporters. According to the Daily Post, he stated, “I bear witness to this. I oversaw the only valid party primary that resulted in Athan Achonu emerging as the governorship candidate for Imo LP. The party’s whole support is behind him.”

Peter Obi, in his speech, expressed his confidence in his ability to tackle the challenges facing the state once elected. “We understand what it takes to transform Nigeria, so we implore the people of Imo to give him their unwavering support. Today, we are gathered here to officially launch the campaign and unveil his manifesto.”

Taking the stage, the governorship candidate promised to prioritize job creation, wealth generation, and the development of critical infrastructure like roads, water, and electricity. He also emphasized the importance of fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within the state.

“On November 11, 2023, the people of Imo will have the opportunity to elect a new governor who will guide our state’s affairs. Considering the recent wave of violence, kidnapping, and destruction of property, this upcoming election provides Imolites with a chance to reverse the course of ineffective governance that has shattered our dreams and aspirations.”

“Imo was once a peaceful and progressive state on the brink of economic growth and prosperity. Sadly, we have witnessed an increase in lawlessness and chaos that has transformed large parts of our land into breeding grounds for criminals.

Imo citizens no longer feel safe in their villages, and traditional events like burials and weddings are now held elsewhere.”

There’s an urgent need to revive Imo State’s economy, combat capital flight, and reverse the alarming trend of businesses shutting down. He acknowledged the profound challenges faced by the healthcare system, vowing to prioritize accessible and affordable healthcare for all.
