Igbo People Cannot Allow Someone In Distant County To Dictate The affairs Of South-East-Ohanaeze Ndigbo

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the prominent pan-Igbo socio-cultural organization, has brought to President Tinubu’s attention the escalating tensions in the South East region, which they claim mark the beginning of a second Biafra war. The group, in a statement issued by its Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has urged President Tinubu to take decisive action by deploying soldiers to the affected areas to address the rising unrest caused by Simon Ekpa and his followers. The Tribune, a Nigerian news outlet, reported on these developments and also highlighted Ohaneze Ndigbo’s announcement of a substantial reward of $500,000 for information leading to the capture of Simon Ekpa. He argued that Igbo people cannot allow people from distant country like Finland to dictate the affairs of the southeast.

In his statement, Mr. Isiguzoro asserted, “We are notifying Tinubu that the second Biafra war has commenced, and we implore him to deploy military personnel to all corners of the South East region.”

In addition, he emphasized the need for assistance to the governors of the South East region, stating that Ohanaeze urges these governors to defend themselves against external threats. He further emphasized that the Igbo people cannot allow someone in a distant country like Finland to dictate the affairs of the South East region.

Ohanaeze also emphasized that both Ebonyi State and the entire South East region must prioritize resolving the acts of terrorism perpetrated by Ekpa and his supporters, underscoring that Ekpa’s declaration of a second civil war in the region is their primary concern.

The group made it explicitly clear that they are employing all available means to ensure a secure environment for the residents of the South East region to conduct their business.

Over a period of time, Simon Ekpa and his group have caused significant hardship for the inhabitants of the South East by forcefully imposing sit-at-home orders against their will. Despite the best efforts of the state governors in the South East, these measures have proved ineffective. It is imperative for the federal government to take the necessary steps to bring an end to this situation once and for all.
