I Revealed To Them At The Rally That I Could Not Conduct LG Elections Because Of Many Litigations-PO

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, recently explained why he was unable to conduct local government elections during his time as governor of Anambra State. Obi provided this explanation on his verified Twitter account after attending a political rally in Edo State with other Labour Party officials.

Conducting local elections was an issue Obi faced criticism for as governor, so he took the opportunity after the Edo rally to address it. He stated that the main reason he could not organize the elections was because of multiple court cases challenging local governance in Anambra at the time.

These legal battles prevented Obi from moving forward with elections until his final year in office as governor. By that time, he felt it was too close to the end of his term to undergo the long process of conducting proper elections. However, Obi accepts responsibility for not making the issue more of a priority earlier in his administration when there may have been time to resolve the court cases and hold elections.

In providing this explanation, Obi aims to demonstrate that there were legitimate constraints that hindered organizing local elections, rather than lack of interest on his part. As he campaigns for president, Obi hopes to address lingering criticisms of his gubernatorial record in Anambra State.
