Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gave him the green light to accept the ministerial position under the Bola Tinubu administration.

Wike, who described the PDP leaders as reggae dancers for threatening to sanction him, said the party was well informed before he accepted the position.

The former governor also said that Tinubu wrote the 36 state governors, including those of the PDP, who, according to him, gave 10 names to the president to appoint as ministers.

“Can you even mention who is my enemy? Can you even mention one person that is my enemy?” Wike said at his first press briefing as a minister of the Federal Republic in Abuja on Monday.

“See, people carry propaganda. Let me use this opportunity to tell you that I don’t like people who don’t tell the truth.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to demolish houses illegally constructed within the nation’s capital, no matter whose property will be affected.

Wike, who took his oath of office alongside 44 other newly appointed Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, gave the warning during a press briefing at the office of the FCT Minister in Garki, Abuja, on Monday.

The FCT Minister said houses that had been built to distort the Abuja Masterplan, as well as built on green areas, will also be demolished, no matter who it did or did not belong to.

“Be you a Minister of anywhere, be you an ambassador, if you know you have developed where you were not supposed to develop, your house must go down. Those who have taken over the green areas to build, sorry, our parks must come back, the green areas must come back. If you hate green, you must hate yourself,” Wike said.

Immediate past Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong on Monday, described his portfolio as Minister of Labour and Employment as enormous but surmountable.

He said this while officially assuming duties at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, alongside his deputy, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.

Banking on the mandate given by the President, Bola Tinubu, the ex-governor vowed that he would tackle existing labour-related disputes or grievances in the country, through the support of the Trade Union Congress and Nigeria Labour Congress.

Lalong also gave hints that a new minimum wage was underway, just as he stressed that the Federal Government was still perfecting a decent palliative scheme for Nigerians following the fuel subsidy removal policy.

He said “We thank the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for appointing us out of the millions of Nigerians. “This is a call to service, and we shall do everything within our power to give our best in assisting the President fulfil his Renewed Hope Agenda for a better Nigeria. Nigerians have trusted President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima with their mandate, and therefore expect a better nation where their dreams and aspirations will be fulfilled.
