Laolu Akande, who is the media aide to the former Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failing to electronically transmit the results of the 2023 presidential and National Assembly elections has broken the trust of Nigerians.

Akande stated this while answering questions on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme on Friday.

According to Akande, INEC failed to fulfill its promise to upload polling unit results on their Result Viewing Portal.

“It is important to establish something we cannot basically run away from. INEC came out of this election as a damaged goods.

“There is no doubt about that. INEC itself set up a standard. INEC determined the guidelines. INEC committed to the people of Nigeria that this is how we are going to declare the result of this election

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has congratulated President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima on their victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which affirmed the All Progressives Congress winner as the Presidential Election of February 25, 2023.

The PEPC had on Wednesday delivered a 12-hour judgment on the appeals arising from the presidential election, upholding the election of President Bola Tinubu.

Atiku and Obi had rejected the court’s judgment, vowing to approach the Supreme Court.

In a statement on Saturday his verified Facebook account, Osinbajo stated that the PEPC ruling was a great victory for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and the rule of law.

The statement reads, “Congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, and our great party, the All Progressives Congress, on the judicial affirmation of the victory at the presidential election of February 25, 2023.

‘I’ve resumed back to work’ – Gov Abiodun to Ogun residents

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has announced that he had resumed work after a trip to India with President Bola Tinubu.

Abiodun announced his resumption in a post on his verified X account on Saturday.

According to him, his administration would soon start the construction of some bad roads across the 20 local governments in the Gateway State.

This, Abiodun said, was in fulfilment of his promise that there would be improved standard of living for Ogun residents.

He stated: “Having resumed back to work after an eventful and short investment driven trip to New Delhi in India, we would like to inform the good people of the Gateway State that our administration will soon kick off the reconstruction of some identified deplorable roads across the Twenty – 20 Local Government Areas in the state.

“This is in fulfilment of our promise to ensure an improved standard of living for every citizens, visitors and investors.

Adamawa govt confirms 8 dead in canoe accident, 7 still missing

The Adamawa State on Saturday said eight people had been confirmed dead after a canoe accident in Yola South Local Government Area.

A boat carrying 23 passengers had capsized in Njuwa Lake at Rugange, a village in the Yola South LGA, early on Friday, with the government confirming one dead as search operations continued.

Eight people had been rescued and eight bodies found, leaving seven other people yet to be accounted for.

The Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, ADSEMA, Mohamed Suleiman, gave the update when he accompanied the state Deputy Governor, Prof Kaletapwa Farauta, on a sympathy visit to families of the affected people.

The ADSEMA boss assured that rescue efforts were on to determine the fate of the passengers that were yet to be tracked.

At the scene of the canoe accident, the deputy governor said a directive had been given for provision of life jackets for canoe users, to check casualty in case of future accidents.
