FG Dissolves Advertising Panel Over 'All Eyes On Judiciary' Billboard

The Federal Government has disbanded the Secretariat of the Advertising Standard Panel, ASP, following the approval of the ‘All Eyes on the Election Tribunal Judges’ billboards. The All Eyes on the Election Tribunal Judges storyline originated as a social media campaign by supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) Presidential candidate in the 2023 election.

The campaigners claim that the court is plotting to favour incumbent President Bola Tinubu. According to the Federal Government, the advertisement was intended to blackmail the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, ARCON, announced the Panel’s dissolution in a statement made on Tuesday. According to Fadolapo, the Council has also suspended its Director and Deputy Director in charge of Regulations to enable for an investigation into the matter.

He said: “The ARCON’s attention has been drawn to the “All Eyes on the Judiciary” advertisements that have appeared on some billboards across the country.” Because the notions exposed were not allowed by the ASP, the materials were removed immediately and the violators were sanctioned. “The advertisement is contentious and has the potential to incite unrest and disrupt public order. “As a result, the Director and Deputy Director, Regulations have also been suspended, as The Advertising Standards Panel, ASP, Secretariat is hereby dissolved.”
