INEC Chair, Mahmood Yakubu Replies Labour Party For Calling For His Sack & Prosecution.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has taken out his replied the Labour Party for calling for his dismissal and subsequent prosecution, as a result of the outcome of the last presidential election.

While speaking, the INEC Chairman made it known that the Labour Party lacks the jurisdiction to demand for his sack and his prosecution, describing their call as a misplaced priority.

According to Premium Times, the INEC Chairman made this disclosure through his media aide, Rotimi Oyekanmi, noting that he is wondering why Labour Party that is presently in court challenging the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, would still go about openly advocating the issues before the court.

He went on and noted that Labour Party’s demand is not only illogical, but also ridiculous. He went on and noted that after the 2023 general election, the Labour Party produced one state governor, eight senators, 35 House of Representatives members and 38 members of the State Houses of Assembly, yet the party is calling for the sack of the INEC Chairman.

Speaking about the election observer groups that monitored the election, he noted that the election observers accredited by the INEC had specific rules and regulations that required them to submit their reports to the commission, noting that such reports may or may not include their recommendations.

The INEC boss went further and noted that it is not within the remit of any election observer whatsoever to indict INEC, noting that they are to observe, make recommendations if they have any, but never to indict INEC or the INEC Chairman.
