Coup: I'm very happy with what happened in Gabon – Fayose

According to a report by the Channels online newspaper, Ayodele Fayose, former Ekiti state governor, said that he is very happy with what happened in Gabon.

The PDP chieftain made the statement in an exclusive interview with Channels TV”s Hard Copy when he was airing his view on the coup that happened in Gabon.

Recall that the military juntas on Wednesday overthrown the democratically elected president of Gabon, Ali Bongo, who has been in power for 14 years, hours he was declared winner in the Saturday’s election.

Ayodele Fayose said that he is pleased with developments in Gabon following soldier’s seizure of power in the oil-rich central African country. He clarified that he does not support military intervention in politics but he believes the recent surge of coups across the Africa countries is the result of the sit-tight syndrome.

“I am very happy with what happened in Gabon, I don’t like military incursions in politics.”

Fayose said he does not see such thing happening in Nigeria, despite the shortcomings in the country’s democratic journey. He said but in a country where a single man is spending 30 years, 20 years, 40 years, they must boot him out of the place whichever way. That’s different from Nigeria’s setting.
