Ministerial appointment: Tunji-Ojo resigns as federal lawmaker

Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, an Ondo State resident and member of the House of Representatives, has resigned from the National Assembly’s lower house.

President Bola Tinubu named Tunji-Ojo as one of his minister-designates. He served as the representative for the Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency of Ondo State in the House of Representatives.

Before the ministers-designate are sworn in today (Monday), his resignation was announced a few hours earlier.

This morning (Monday), Mr. Babatunde Alao, Tunji-Ojo’s media assistant, gave our correspondent a copy of the resignation letter. It was learned, however, that the registration letter had already been turned in to Tajudeen Abbas’ office, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as of Friday.

Tunji-Ojo detailed in the letter why he had to quit, citing his appointment as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He remarked that he had been selected at a time when the nation was in desperate need of technocrats to help give their fair share to the nation’s advancement and economic growth.

The letter stated, in part, that “our dear country is in dire need of collaborative and concerted efforts that would engender the much-needed advancement to greater heights, and I have been appointed to contribute my quota to achieve that enble objective as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Tunji-Ojo said he was ready to contribute everything he had for the renewed hope and agenda of the current administration and thanked President Tinubu for believing he was qualified to serve the nation in his new position as a minister.

The minister-designate represented the Akoko North-East/Akoko North-West Federal Constituency of Ondo State until his appointment, winning re-election for a second term.

Tunji-Ojo presided over the House of Representatives Committee on Niger/Delta Affairs while she was a member of the National Assembly from 2019 and 2023.
