'American Oldest Senator Spent 58 Years But Here They Will Tell You, Is He The Only Person?' – Moro

Former Minister of Interior and second-term Senator representing Benue South Senatorial district, Senator Abba Moro has alleged that the Nigeria system is skewed against incumbency in the Legislature. In an exclusive interview with Sun paper, he pointed out the fact that other countries have Senators who spent many years at the Chambers. He complained as regarding Nigerians’ perception about the Senate. In his words, people protest when a Senator spent a many years in office.

Abba Moro speaking in an interview with Sun paper said, ”The system is so skewed against incumbency. They get easily defeated in the process of nominations. I think that there is something that Nigeria has to do about it. In most climes, Senator remain in office for a upward of over 50 years.

I think the Oldest Senator in America System who recently retired spent 58 years as a Senator but here in Nigeria they will tell you, is he the only person? Because Nigerians see politics as a way of chopping. They begin to quarrel if somebody returns for several times. I think that is something we have to find a legal arrangement or legal intervention to preserve our democracy.”
