Yakubu, INEC admin staff meet to resolve logistics problems

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, met in Lagos on Thursday with the commission’s administrative secretaries to review the 2023 general elections.

According to Yakubu, the purpose of the meeting was to determine some of the administrative problems that impacted INEC’s performance in the most recent general elections.

“The purpose of this gathering, as stated by the speaker, is to identify the areas of strength with a view to consolidating where necessary.

“Also, the goal of the meeting with administrative officials was to pinpoint the areas of weakness so that we could develop concrete suggestions for enhancements in subsequent elections.

The commission has therefore also recognized these difficulties and ways to address them for future elections based on comments from the general public.

The administration of the BVAS technology, the insecurity of the facilities and the staff, the late arrival of election materials to some polling places, and ineffective service at voting places by trained officials were among them, he claimed.

Yakubu clarified that in order for the administrative officers in each state to successfully complete the timely collation of the national results of the election at the scheduled hour, they must properly plan their logistical operations.
