Don’t Allow US, France To Use You To Attack Niger Republic, They Are Our Brothers, El-Zakzaky Warns ECOWAS Chairman, Tinubu

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, popularly known as ‘Shi’ites’ has called on President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to shelve the plan to attack Niger Republic.

According to El-Zakzaky, the people of Niger “are our brothers”.

El-Zakzaky said this in a statement on Monday while reacting to the threat made by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) that it could resort to the use of military action to reinstall the ousted democratically elected leader in Niger, Mohamed Bazoum.

He said the cultural ties that have existed between the two countries have made them one family. The Islamic scholar noted that they were not consulted before taking such a decision and therefore they cannot support it.

El-Zakzaky said, “All of a sudden, France and the US want to use Nigeria to attack Niger. This is very shocking given the fact that Nigeria and Niger are one people.

“Even if southern Nigeria does not see it that way, we in northern Nigeria had empires founded by Shehu Usman Danfodio and Kanem Borno. It was the territories of such empires that were carved out to create Niger and Nigeria.

“I once told you Gazargamu is the capital of Kanem Borno, right? The fortification of the city is intact because there still exist remnants of the buildings. It may interest you to note that half of the fortification is on the Nigerien side of the border and the rest is in Nigeria. When our borders were partitioned, they did not take our history into cognizance.

“As I keep telling you, Borno territory was partitioned into four parts —Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. Most of the territory was part of Borno. Furthermore, if you look at the territory of the Shehu Usman Empire, from Borno up to Sokoto, each city was partitioned into two. If you look at the territory of Hadejia, some part of it was annexed to Niger. A part of Gumel’s territory is part of Niger. If you cross the border of Maigatari, you are still part of Gumel’s territory but it was ceded to Niger. A part of Kazaure is also part of Niger.

“This is the same fate that befell Daura. A large part of Daura also became part of Niger. Katsina was also partitioned into two parts: Katsinan Maradi and Nigeria’s Katsina. They are all partitioned. Moreover, the Gobir Empire was also partitioned between Niger and Nigeria. The hometown of Shehu Usman Danfodio, Marata, is located in Niger.”

According to him, “The cultural ties that Niger and Nigeria share are closer than people imagine”.

A Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum Summit has discussed plans to collaborate with African countries on education and science.

A statement by the Roscongress Foundation said this was made known during a panel discussion titled, ‘Building a common future: Educational and scientific opportunities of Russia for Africa.’

In his opening remarks, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy, Social Work and International Relations at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Stanislav Surovtsev, spoke of a new desire on the part of Russia to collaborate in education with the countries of Africa. “It is very important that we lay the foundation for fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation right now,” he said.

President of the Pan-African Movement, Kemi Seba, added that the educational models imposed by the West remained in force on the African continent, saying, “We have African school programmes, but they are European and American, and we ought to have our own”. Seba said that cooperation in the 21st century should be devoid of ideology and should be equitable and mutually beneficial.
