Wike: "In 1999, Bola Ige Was In AD When He Chose To Be Minister In PDP Under Obasanjo" -Source

Yesterday evening, The Guardian paper reported that the Senate confirmed Nyesom Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, as a minister. After undergoing Senate screening, Wike presented his Curriculum Vitae and accomplishments, citing his dedication to Nigeria as the driving force behind his acceptance of the ministerial position.

However, The NATION paper published a report this morning quoting a source within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who addressed this development. The source revealed that the PDP leadership faced a dilemma over Nyesom Wike’s selection, as some party leaders argued that there was no explicit provision in the party’s constitution prohibiting a member from serving in another government established by a rival party.

Drawing historical parallels, the source remarked, “Our party’s constitution might require amendment. This situation isn’t unprecedented, as the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, was in the opposition All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) when he accepted a ministerial role on April 6th, 2010, in the PDP administration of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.”

Continuing, the source added, “In 1999, the late Chief Bola Ige, who was a member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), chose to become a minister in the PDP government led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.”
