Gabon Coup: President Ali Bongo Granted The Freedom To Leave The Country & Travel Abroad

According to Channels TV, former Gabonese President Ali Bongo, ousted in a coup, has been granted the freedom to leave the country and travel abroad, according to General Brice Oligui Nguema, the leader of the coup.

Bongo, who held power for 14 years, had been under house arrest since the bloodless military coup on August 30, shortly after his party declared his contested re-election. Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, reading a press release on behalf of President Oligui, cited Bongo’s health condition and stated that he could travel abroad for medical examinations.

“Given his state of health, the former President of the Republic Ali Bongo Ondimba has freedom of movement. He can travel abroad if he wishes to carry out his medical checks,” Colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi said while reading a press release signed by Oligui on Wednesday.

Recall, the Bongo family’s 56 year hold on power in Gabon was brought to an end with a military coup on 30 August.
