What is happening in Gabon is not democracy; when you have Father & Son ruling for over 40yrs – Simeon Reef

Simeon Reef, Co-Founder, Foremost Magazine, said that what is happening in Gabon is not a democracy, because it is a situation where a father and son were the ones ruling the country for over 40 years.

Simeon Reef said this in an interview with AIT during the Kakaaki program, when he was asked to react to the recent military coup in Gabon especially with the fact that it is coming just about a month after Niger coup.

Simeon Reef said,

“I want to emphasise on something, what is happening in Gabon is not a democracy because when you have a father and a son ruling for over 40 years, he said that can not be a democracy and it will be abnormal for us to label what is happening in Gabon as a democracy.”

Simeon said the Gabon constitution had been foisted on the people and that it was no longer the will of the people, and that it was what led to what we saw that happened 2 days ago. He then said what happened in Gabon calls for Africa to build institution for leadership that people will have confidence in. He said when people stop having confidence on their leaders, it won’t be fine again.
