We thought we had seen it all during Buhari's administration, but we are seeing the worst this time around – Maxi Okwu

Maxi Okwu, a former national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and a prominent commentator on public affairs, has expressed his thoughts regarding the reported allowances given to federal lawmakers in the red chamber of the national assembly during their holiday period.

According to a report by The Daily Post paper, Maxi Okwu voiced his concerns in a recent interview, stating, “The reported allowances are yet another manifestation of the widespread corruption and unlawful activities that persist. We believed we had already witnessed the extent of this during the tenure of the Ahmed Lawan-led Ninth National Assembly, but one can sadly anticipate that the Akpabio-led 10th National Assembly will surpass that.”

He continued, “This is mainly due to the fact that Akpabio has elevated the rubber-stamping practice to an unprecedented level. He appears to be closely aligned with Tinubu’s interests. During the scrutiny of ministerial nominees, it was said that a candidate was nearly rejected by the Senate, but the proceedings were abruptly adjourned as the Senate leader hurriedly went with an unnecessarily large convoy to the Presidential Villa for guidance or instruction. This is nothing short of a disaster.”

Maxi Okwu further remarked, “We had believed that the previous administration under President Buhari had set a certain standard, but the current situation is proving to be worse. We seem to have moved from bad to worse. The ruling APC seems to be accommodating individuals with questionable ethics.”

The recent statement made by Maxi Okwu, as reported by The Daily Post paper on their verified Facebook page, has sparked significant reactions from numerous Nigerians on the social media platform.
