Professor Ikechukwu, a Human Capital development expert, expressed his perspective on the recent suspension of the EFCC chairman by Bola Tinubu. In a recent interview with Arise during the night program, Professor Okey Ikechukwu, a Human Capital development expert, expressed his opinion on the actions of politician Bola Tinubu. Specifically, he addressed Tinubu’s decision to suspend the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, shortly after his visit to the president.
He said the more critical issue is, that idea of hitting the ground running
“I think the man didn’t hit the ground running, I think he was cycling in the air before he landed on the ground.”
He said the removal of Bawa must have been informed by pre-inauguration information because the impression now is, he must have a good team, and issue now is, it is better that these decisions are right decision because they are foundational, must be of national interest.

“The idea now is, by the time he’s 100 days in office, there will be a lot, we should tell him (Tinubu) not to do 100 days in office…we don’t need to do that, he is elected to lead” he said by now we should be mature as a nation.
According to Professor Ikechukwu, it is important to understand that there are certain official protocols and courtesies that should be followed when it comes to the interaction between heads of agencies and a newly appointed president. He mentioned that it is customary for agency heads to either visit the president or wait for an invitation to meet with him, particularly in the context of welcoming the president to office.
The professor further commented that based on the available information, Tinubu had the authority and prerogative to suspend any individual in the interest of the country. While the suspension occurred shortly after Bawa’s visit, Professor Ikechukwu did not directly imply a causal relationship between the two events. Instead, he highlighted the power vested in Tinubu to make such decisions and emphasized that the suspension was likely made in the best interest of the nation.
Professor Ikechukwu’s statement implies that he believes it would be advisable to communicate to Tinubu that he should refrain from assuming office for a full 100 days before taking such decisive actions. By suggesting this, he may be suggesting that Tinubu should take more time to assess the situation, gather information, and fully understand the implications of his decisions before making any major changes within government agencies.
