Osun APC Urges State Governor to Expedite Distribution of Federal Government Palliatives

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to promptly announce the delivery and distribution of federal government palliatives meant to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal on fuel.

As per the Daily Post on Friday, August 18, 2023, the party alleged that the palliatives had been in the state for the past 12 days without any communication from the government regarding their distribution.

In a statement signed by the state chairman of the APC, Tajudeen Lawal, the party expressed its concern over the delayed distribution of the palliatives and emphasized the importance of timely relief for the people.

The statement revealed that the party had received information that five trailer loads of rice and other items, donated by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, had been sent to the Osun State Government.

The APC criticized the state government for not publicly acknowledging the federal government’s gesture and urged Governor Adeleke to promptly release the rice palliatives to reach those in need.

The party questioned the delay in distribution, pointing out that neighboring states had already completed the process and were awaiting additional batches of palliatives.

Tajudeen Lawal stated, “There was no justifiable reason for Governor Adeleke to maintain a stone silence on the palliatives from the federal government for a good twelve days.

What has been delaying the distribution of the rice palliatives from the federal government to the Osun people when other neighboring states have completed the process and are waiting for other tranches of the palliatives?”

The APC also expressed concerns about the possibility of the palliatives being diverted by the state government.

The party alleged that the Governor was attempting to manipulate the situation by labeling the rice bags as ‘Imole De Rice’, and warned that such actions would be opposed using all legal means available.

In response, the state government dismissed the APC’s claims as mere propaganda and misinformation.

The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, clarified that the Federal Government had approved a total of three thousand bags of rice palliatives for Osun State.

He stated that six hundred bags were loaded onto each truck, making a total of two thousand and four hundred bags received so far.

Alimi reassured the public that the rice palliatives would be distributed as soon as the last batch arrived, which was expected before the end of the week. He emphasized that the state government had been working on distribution modalities to ensure fair and efficient allocation.
