Tribunal Upholds President Bola Tinubu's Election Victory

The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s election as the winner of the February 25 presidential election on Wednesday, The PUNCH reports. The Tribunal’s five-member panel was led by Justice Haruna Tsammani.

This development came as a result of petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as well as the Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi, challenging Tinubu’s victory as the winner of the presidential election declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission on March 1.

Tinubu received 8,794,726 votes, defeating Atiku and Obi, who received 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes, respectively. According to Justice Haruna Tsammani, “this petition thus lacks merit.” I reaffirm Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the constitutionally elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The parties must incur their own costs.”⁣ ⁣

Following that, the Tribunal’s five-member panel, led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, unanimously dismissed petitions presented by the Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi, which challenged President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission on March 1, 2023.
