Tribunal: This is the best time to put Nigeria in its rightful place among committee of nations- LP

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) is on the verge of delivering its judgment on the petitions filed by the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, challenging the election victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In anticipation of the judgment, the Labour Party’s Lagos State Chapter has called upon the tribunal judges to render a fearless and impartial verdict. The party’s spokesperson, Olubunmi Odusanya, stressed the importance of the tribunal’s decision being in the best interest of the entire country. The party views this as an opportunity for Nigeria to regain its rightful standing among nations.

The statement, as reported by The Punch on September 6, 2023, demonstrates the significant responsibility entrusted to the tribunal judges. The Labour Party urged them to prioritize justice for Nigeria rather than personal interests. They emphasized that the destiny of over two hundred million Nigerians is in the hands of the judges and urged them not to yield to any external pressures.

“It is an enormous responsibility in their hands and we urge them to deliver justice in the interest of Nigeria, not self. We want the tribunal judges to realize that the destinies of over two hundred million are in their hands. This is the time to put Nigeria in her rightful place in the committee of nations”.

The Labour Party lamented that Nigeria’s rightful place among nations had been hindered by poor leadership and called on the tribunal judges to resist any form of pressure from any quarters. It’s worth noting that the election tribunal had previously announced that court proceedings would be televised live for Nigerians to observe. Millions of Nigerians are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the case.
