Gombe gov appoints additional six district, 12 village heads.

According to Punch news, The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has approved the appointments of additional six district and 12 village heads for Akko, Yamaltu and Deba Emirates.

Our correspondent reports that nine village heads were nominated in Akko, with one district head; Yalmatu emirate got four district heads, with three village heads, and one district head for Deba emirate

The Secretary to the Government of the State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, who conveyed the governor’s approval in a statement made available by the Director-General Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli. He said this was in exercise of the powers vested in the governor under the Gombe State Chieftaincy Law.

“All the appointments are with immediate effect,” the statement partly read.

He announced Jibrin Abubakar Mele, as District Head of Panda, with the following as village heads under Akko Emirate; Jauro Hamma Malam (Kayel-Baga), Hussaini Hassan (Panda); Usman Ahmed Kumo (Kumo-Santuraki); Muhammad Dalhatu (Modibbo-Abba) and Alhaji Yaya Madaki (Yarima-Shehu) Others are: Abdullahi Shatima (Galadima-Umaru); Mallam Maikudi Ardo (Ardo-Kadiri); Gidado Babari (Lambiyel) and Adamu Jauro Lawwol (Wuro Lawwol).

Tinubu approves Presidential Compressed Natural Gas initiative.

According to Punch news, President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas initiative.

The CNG initiative seeks to ease the impacts of fuel subsidy removal on the citizenry by reducing energy costs.

The approval of the initiative was disclosed on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), Ajuri Ngelale.

He stated that the initiative which targets over 11,500 new CNG-enabled vehicles.

Also included in the target are 55,000 CNG conversion kits for existing PMS-dependent vehicles.

The initiative seeks to strengthen in-country manufacturing, local assembly and expansive job creation in line with the presidential directive.

Ngelale said, “The landmark initiative, which comprises of a Comprehensive Adoption Strategy, will include the following: Empowering Workshops Programme w/ Nationwide Network of Workshops, Local Assembly and Job Creation as key points of emphasis with an initial focus on mass transit systems and student hubs in order to significantly reduce transit costs for the general populace in the immediate term.

‘Punish electoral fraud above any other crime.

According to Punch news, A former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Dr. Sam Amadi, has called on the judiciary to impose harsher punishments for electoral fraud compared to any other criminal activity.

He emphasised that electoral fraud posed a significant danger to the nation’s democracy and should be treated more severely than other crimes.

He stressed the need for urgent measures to ensure electoral integrity and rebuild public trust in the voting process.

Amadi, who made the call in Abuja on Thursday at the launch of a report entitled, ‘Election without Democracy: Explanatory Notes on the 2023 elections, by The Center for Public Policy and Research, emphasised the growing concern over the rise of electoral misconduct and suspected fraudulent behaviour during elections in the country.

He said, “The judiciary must penalise electoral fraud more than any other crime. So, it’s like, don’t put the death penalty on someone stealing money, put the death penalty on someone rigging elections. The elections failed because politicians deliberately rigged with INEC. Nigerians will vote simply and go home.”

Bandits attack: Security agencies intensify patrol in Minna, others.

According to Punch news, Following the attacks on Sunday and Monday in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State and its environs, which claimed the lives of over 20 soldiers, there is an unusual presence of security operatives, including military personnel in Minna, the state capital.

They are noticed at various places including the markets, traffic junctions roundabouts and public places such as eateries.

Police security vehicles are seen stationed in strategic places where the population of civilians is large.

There is also the sound of sirens blaring on the roads heading in the direction of the local governments where the attacks occurred.

Niger State was jolted by an attack by bandits which claimed the lives of over 20 soldiers as well as the shooting down of one helicopter.

The military was reported to be planning an air raid on the affected local government to smoke out the remaining bandits after they reportedly neutralised over 50 of the bandits during the attack.
