Tribunal: Reactions As Shehu Sani Urges Presidential Candidates To Sign Peace Accord Ahead Of Court Judgment

Amid the ongoing palpable tension that has greeted reports indicating that the five-man panel of Appeal Court Justices currently presiding over the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal is now set to deliver judgement on the cases challenging the outcome of the February 25 polls, reactions have begun trailing a social media post made by civil rights activist, and former Kaduna Lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani in which he urged presidential candidates to commit to peaceful conduct regardless of which direction the judgment goes.

In a short tweet posted on his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday, September 5, Sani who represented Kaduna Central Constituency at the 8th National Assembly on the platform Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), opined that just as presidential flag bearers were made to sign the Peace Accord prior to the general elections, they should be invited to do the same ahead of the tribunal’s judgment on Wednesday, September 6.

He wrote; “Peace Accord was signed by the Presidential Candidates before the election. The Peace Accord should be signed by the Presidential candidates before the judgment.”

As expected, Sani’s remarks have drawn a flurry of mixed reactions from a cross-section of Nigerians online, with many trooping to the comments section to share their thoughts.

While some persons concurred with his suggestion, others, however, pointed out that the law allows for candidates who may not be satisfied with the ruling of the tribunal to take their petitions to the Supreme Court if necessary.
